Mummy Toast: A Savoury Spooky Snack

It’s Halloween week! Today I’ve got a quick spooky food idea to share with you, that’s perfect for a hearty after school snack or a simple supper. Amidst all the Halloween sweeties being consumed this week, it’s a good healthy(ish) alternative too.

All you need are some slices of bread (we prefer whole grain, but choose whatever works best for you), some tomato puree, some sliced cheese of your choice – like cheddar or gouda – and some black olives. Pre-sliced olives are perfect for this, but you can also just get whole olives (which are usually cheaper) and slice them up.

First spread a slice of bread with some tomato puree. At this point, you can also add a sprinkle of dried oregano and/ or some salt and pepper – basically pizza seasoning – but that’s entirely optional.

Then, cut your slice of cheese in to strips, and lay them criss cross across the slice of bread to look like the bandages of a mummy unravelling. Finish off your spooky mummy toast by adding two slices of black olives for the eyes. Now just pop it under the grill for a few minutes until the cheese starts to melt.

And there you go – a yummy, savoury Halloween snack of supper. It’s basically like a mini pizza, but spooky!

Have you made any spooky mummy toast? Or maybe you have other simple Halloween snack ideas? I’d love to see any pictures, so please do feel free share or tag me on Bluesky or Instagram! Have a great Halloween, everyone.
