{Einburgh} The Portobello Bookshop
One of the things I love most about Edinburgh, is that it’s right next to the sea. I really missed that during our years in landlocked Berlin. In fact, one of the first things we did when we moved back to Edinburgh was to take a break from unpacking boxes and spend a day on the beach in Edinburgh’s coastal suburb Portobello. But Portobello isn’t just worth a trip for its beach, as of July this year it also has a fantastic new bookshop! Beach and books, what could you ask more. None of us can resist a good bookshop, so on our latest beach day in Portobello we of course had to check out the bookshop too.
Well, I’m not exaggerating when I say we fell in love with The Portobello Bookshop instantly! It is light and spacious, with a generously sized children’s section through the back, accessed by an archway. With reading nooks aplenty, it’s the perfect retreat if you want to escape the bustling beach during your seaside trip.
Our eldest was away at a camping weekend, so it was just the three of us on this occasion, but I can’t wait to take my other little bookworm to visit the bookshop – I know he’s going to love it!
The Portobello Bookshop is open 7 days a week. They also run a programme of events, which I admittedly don’t know that much about since we don’t live close by, but you can find all the details on the bookshop’s website.
How to get there:
Portobello is located about three miles from Edinburgh city centre. If you’re travelling from Edinburgh, Lothian bus 19 and 26 will take you there from Princes Street, and Lothian Bus 21 leaves from the foot of Leith Walk. All three buses stop right outside The Portobello Bookshop, at 46 Portobello High Street.
