Oskar’s Christmas Book Haul
Hands up if you love getting books for Christmas? I was dreading the onslaught of unnecessary toys, but was pleasantly surprised – not only were there only a couple of toys, with most of the boys’ presents being books, but the boys also thought this was the best thing ever! I love how much they love books. Oskar really wanted to show you all his haul AND he wanted to do it all by himself (so give the boy some views & likes on the video, if you can):
If you enjoyed the video, I’d be really grateful if you would subscribe to my channel. Thanks!
List of Books:
- Thorfinn the Nicest Viking…and the Gruesome Games, by David MacPhail & Richard Morgan – this is the second in the series, but if you want to start at the beginning the first book is Thorfinn and the Awful Invasion.
- Rico, Oskar und der Diebstahlstein, by Andreas Steinhöfel & Peter Schössow – This is the first book in the series, available in German only (via Amazon UK). The first book in the series however has been translated in to English and is available under the title “The Pasta Detectives”. It is a brilliant book about an unlikely friendship, and a bestseller in Germany.
- Die Muskeltiere auf großer Fahrt, by Ute Krause. This is the second in the series about a group of rodent friends who go on big adventures together. We’ve read the first and absolutely LOVED it (available in German only, via Amazon UK)
- Frühling im Holunderweg, by Martina Baumbach & Verena Körting. From a series of books about a group of friends who all live in the same house. Each book is set in a different season, this one is the Spring book (available in German only, via Amazon UK)
- Wissen. Was ist das? by Oscar Brenifier & Pascal Lamaitre – A great book to introduce kids to philosophy. This edition is available via Amazon Germany. There doesn’t seem to be an English translation, but if you search for “Oscar Brenifier” on Amazon UK it comes up with some other philosophy books for kids by him.
- Norse Myths: Tales of Odin, Thor and Loki, by Kevin Crossley-Holland and Jeffrey Alan Love – Oskar studied Vikings at school last year so this gorgeous edition of Viking tales was a no brainer.
- The Clue is in the Poo, by Andy Seed & Claire Almon – This is currently unavailable but looks like it’s be re-released in April. The catchy title really had my boys hooked, they have been studying it together throughout the holidays.
- Egypt Magnified, by David Long & Harry Bloom – A fun search & find book for older kids.

Great video and what a lovely mix of books! I particularly like the idea of the one that makes you think of your own answers. And the poo one made me smile! You’re going to be learning lots Oskar, while you’re having fun.

These books all sound great! We’re on a book ban at the mo, as bad as that sounds! Between three kids we have soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many books and no more space in our bookshelf… and no more space for another bookshelf!

Love the video, it great that he did it himself.
Some lovely looking books there, I know mine would love the pop book because my son got one last year which he still reads!

Ooh I’d quite like the Norse Tales one! I’ve been watching Vikings and find it quite fascinating. A good haul for the boys!

What a great book haul Oskar, I am loving the Norse Myths – you have got some really brilliant books to keep you busy!
Cath - Passports and Adventures
What a great haul, there’s some lovely sounding books in there. I love when my son gets books as presents and he got one or two to add to his huge collection this Christmas.
Mudpie Fridays
What a fab video! We did get some books for Christmas more than that have the last couple of years. Although we are struggling to fit them in their bookcases. I am sure my two would also love the book The Clue is Poo. I will have to keep an eye out for when its re-released.

We love giving and getting books for Christmas too – it’s become quite hard to find toys my kids really want now, but there are always plenty of great books to choose from! I must admit my knowledge of German kids books is limited mostly to Michael Ende and Cornelia Funke, so I’ll have to check out the ones on your list – they look fab!

I used to love getting books for gifts as a child (I still do as an adult). It looks like he got a good haul this year x
