#KidsBooksBingo Summer Reading Challenge 2020
We’ve made it to the end of our first week of summer camp. I have dedicated Friday to books, and today I want to tell you about the summer reading challenge I am hosting together with my lovely friend Amanda who runs the online children’s book store Books & Pieces. For the second year in a row, we are running a #KidsBooksBingo! We have created a bingo grid with nine different book categories, and we are challenging you to read books from as many of them as you can over the summer. We have tried to pick categories that work for different ages, and apart from ‘a lift-the-flap book’ I did manage to find books that both my 5 year old and my 9 year old liked when picking our own favourites for each category.
You can download a copy of the bingo grid, so that you don’t have to memorise all the categories. And if you are on Twitter or Instagram, you can also join in by sharing pictures of what you are reading with the hashtag #KidsBooksBingo.

Each Friday throughout July and August, I’ll also be highlighting a few of our own favourites from a different category here on the blog. You’ll get a chance to take a peek inside some of our favourite books, and perhaps discover some new favourites of your own to read over the summer. For this week, I have chosen to highlight ‘a search and find book’, with three different books for ages 1.5/ 2 years up to 8+
If you want to look up any of the books from the video, here are the details:
- Very First Book of Things to Spot, by Usborne – This doesn’t actually seem to be available at the moment (oops) but there are two other from the same series, Very First Book of Things to Spot Out and About and Very First Book of Things to Spot at Home
- The Big Bird Spot, by Matt Sewell
- Where’s the Unicorn, by Paul Moran
What are your favourite Search & Find books? Let us know in the comments below.
All Summer Camp activities are free to make them accessible to as many people as possible. However, if you enjoy the activities and are able to, you can support me with a donation on Ko-fi. Just hit the button below. Every little helps and is much appreciated. Thank you.

What a fantastic way to shake up reading. I definitely feel that my eldest son gets stuck in a rut reading the same authors and it’s always good to discover something new.

My kids used to love the Poppy and Sam books, where’s Poppy? “She’s hiding” now they are older they all have their own tastes. We are currently reading through the David Walliams books.

This Summer reading challenge is a great idea… We may well give it a go. :)

This is a great idea for the Summer. Anything that encourages them to read more is great. My youngest has a thing about lift the flap books!

I love this idea. We read a lot of books so I think Oscar would be keen to take part :)
