DIY Easter Decor: Wire Bunny Ears
Easter is one of my favourite times of year, and we usually start Easter Sunday with a special breakfast. Here’s an easy-peasy idea for adding a bit of festive decor to your Easter breakfast table, all you need is some wire.
I made these bunny ears a couple of years ago, and they always come out on the big day. Our egg cups from Buddy & Bear (not a promotion, we bought these ourselves) are a perfect match, but if you have plain egg cups you can just draw a face straight on to the eggs with a black permanent marker instead. Here’s how to make the ears:
You will need some wire (mine is ca. 2mm thick) and a pair of scissors or wire cutters.
Step 1: Cut one piece of wire ca. 18cm long and two pieces of wire ca. 12cm long.
Step 2: Take the longer piece of wire and bend it in to a ring of ca. 3.5cm to 4cm diameter (test it out on your eggs to make sure it’s not too big), twisting the ends around the circle. The wire will be longer than you need for the ring, but I found it easier and less fiddly to make it a bit too long and then trim the ends.
Step 3: Take the two shorter pieces and bend them in half with with ends crossed, as shown above – these will be the ears.
Step 4: Take one of the ‘ears’ and attach it to the ring, twisting the ends around the ring as shown above. Trim off any excess.
Step 5: Repeat for the other ‘ear’. Voila!
Repeat until you have enough bunny ears for everyone at your breakfast table. Be careful if doing this activity with kids, as the ends of the wire can be quite sharp.
