{Edinburgh} Buckstone Park Playground & Woods
This past weekend, we went on a day trip to the South of Edinburgh, to check out a couple of parks and playgrounds we hadn’t been to before. Our first stop was Buckstone Park, near Fairmilehead Crossroads. The playground there is a little tired looking, and some of the equipment had pieces missing, but apparently there is already a consultation in process to improve it so we won’t be too harsh in our judgement. While it didn’t hold my 11 year old’s attention for long, my 7 year old wanted to stay longer, so I guess that speaks in its favour.

The big thing Buckstone Park has going for it, is that it’s surrounded by woodland. This is not immediately evident if you look on Google Maps, unless you switch to satellite view and then – boom! – woodland everywhere.

A friend of mine gave me the tip that you can actually walk from Buckstone Park through the woods to the nearby Seven Acre Park. If you ask Google Maps, it will try to take you back along the main road, but the woodland walk is much nicer and also shorter (Tip: the satellite view also shows you the paths through the wood). So you can make a day trip out of it and visit both parks. I’ll probably do a separate post on the walk itself, with more detailed directions, so keep your eyes open for that.
