We have a lovely little craft activity to share with you today. Everyone is all about the rainbows right now, and my youngest has been studying weather at school too. So when he asked if we could do some crafting, I raided our craft materials box to come up with an easy weather related craft (using up some paper plates left over from our Easter baskets).

You will need:

  • a paper plate
  • coloured paper in rainbow colours
  • cotton wool
  • scissors
  • a glue stick

Step 1: Cut the paper plate in half. Cut a strip of paper about 20cm long for each rainbow colour. The width depends on the size of your plate. Our paper plate was 23cm wide, so we cut the paper strips 2.5 cm wide so that they would line up along the width of the plate with a little space between each.

Step 2: Glue the strips of paper along the cut edge of the paper plate, on the back side of the plate. Make sure you line them up in the order of the rainbow, with red on the right.

Step 3: Now cover the front of the paper plate with glue and stick cotton wool on to it. Pull the balls of cotton wool apart a little to make them look more fluffy and less like balls!

Ta da! A rainbow cloud! Older kids can do the cutting of the plate and the paper themselves. For younger kids, you can prepare the plate and paper strips in advance and let the kids do the glueing.
